Volunteers’ Week: John’s story

As Volunteers’ Week continues, today we’re sharing John’s story and saying ‘Thank you!’
John was one of the three people who founded Rowan in 1984. He then spent about 30 years as a committee member, before deciding to take a step back. Since John wanted to keep in touch, he decided to volunteer for Rowan.
‘My interest is wanting to keep in touch with the progress that Rowan is making. It’s changed a lot since it started – people have lots of new ideas for Rowan and it’s a pleasure to see it still growing today.’
John has helped out at lots of fundraising events – but as a keen artist himself, his favourite event to support is Rowan’s annual art exhibition. ‘I’ll put myself forward to do anything these days,’ says John. ‘But my hobby is painting – I’m an amateur artist myself.’
