Rowan runners take to streets for Cambridge half marathon

Rowan’s running enthusiasts taking part in the Cambridge half marathon on Sunday 17 October have raised more than £2,500 for the Cambridge-based arts charity.

David Brand, Dale Griffiths, Abi Moore, Dom Williams and Claire Young all completed the race in support of the charity, which supports adults with learning disabilities through a range of arts workshops and a forest school.

This was the first year that Rowan was represented at the event, which takes runners on a 13-mile route past some of Cambridge’s historic landmarks, ending at Midsummer Common.

“I managed the run in 2 hours and 7 minutes, which I was pleased with for my first half marathon!” said Dom Williams, who raised £700 for Rowan. “I have applied for a ballot place for the London Marathon next year… I’m not sure if it feels like the best idea right now but if I am successful and get a place, I’d love to run for Rowan again!”

Rowan’s Director of Operations Abi Moore managed to raise £425, despite experiencing some pain from an old injury halfway through the race. “I had to acknowledge that I had to walk the rest of it so that I wouldn’t give up,” said Abi. “But I met a fantastic lady who was in a similar position, and we walked the rest together to support each other. We got to the end with the support of the wonderful tail walker, plus our friends, family and really encouraging crowds.

“It’s good to keep challenging yourself whatever your age, ability, and circumstance. I’m so glad I did it!”

Nearly 10,000 runners participated this year, which was the tenth anniversary of the Cambridge half marathon.
