What’s on the menu?

This week some of our student artists have been busy working on a project with Kettle’s Yard. The aim is to create serving platters for a community feast taking place on Saturday 16th September. The artist in residence on the Kettle’s Yard ‘Open House’ community project, Harold Offeh, has said: “The approach to the designs has been to think about our relationship to objects in the home. Memories and stories that are associated with everything from the ordinary everyday objects to spectacular things. The actual design could feature drawings, symbols, basic patterns and text.”

When it came to serving platters one thing came to mind for our student artists and tutors – food! The platters have varied from a favourite dinner from childhood, a holiday memory, to Sunday dinners where food and socialising with friends and family go hand in hand.

Student artists Steve, Nicky, Naomi and Christine have shared some of their designs to date that will soon transform in our ceramic studios. Nicky has drawn a selection of apples and pears as they are her favourite fruit when Christine has gone with the Sunday classic including chicken, parsnips, potatoes, carrots and even yorkshire puddings!  

The student artists have started to work on the platter mould which will be made from clay where the designs will be drawn. We will keep you all updated on the project and the stories that appear so keep an eye out!
