On Wednesday 23rd October, our students took to the stage at Covent Garden Theatre in Cambridge for an incredible performance titled ‘I Am What I Am’. The show, featuring our music and drama students, was an inspiring showcase of how much their confidence has grown over the past year.
From Months of Practice to a Standout Show
For months, the music and drama groups rehearsed separately, perfecting their pieces. On the day of the show, they came together for the first time. Despite the pressure, their performances were seamless. The energy in the room was full of joy, and it was clear that our students were having a great time on stage.
The first half featured our music group, performing heartfelt songs on ukuleles, as well as original pieces they had written themselves. In the second half, the Drama Llamas took to the stage with powerful themes of self-acceptance, kindness, and resilience, expressed through physical drama and spoken word.
Confidence and Joy on Full Display
The growth in our performers’ confidence was remarkable. Each student embraced their individuality with enthusiasm and joy, creating a performance that was uplifting and memorable from start to finish.
A Huge Thanks to Our Tutors
We owe a huge thanks to music tutor Bethany Kirby and drama tutor Lindsey McAuley. Their hard work and dedication were instrumental in our students’ success.
Lindsey said: “After many months of rehearsal it was amazing to finally perform on the stage. The way four separate drama groups came together as one was incredible. I felt so proud and moved by the way they were with each other. The trust they had with each other was beautiful to see. Each students’ personality shone, from the shy to super confident, and it highlighted the community spirit we see everyday at Rowan. It was a very proud moment, and one that will be difficult to top…watch this space!”
What did the audience have to say?
- “An absolute joy to watch.”
- “Inspirational, brave, incredible”
- “A spiritual experience.”
- “I didn’t know what to expect, but it was impressive. The confidence of the students was amazing.”
- “I went last year, and the improvement was incredible. None of them wavered under pressure.”
