Exploring the process of artist led learning
Since Christmas, Sheila Ceccarelli from Access Art has been working with us at Rowan to document the way we teach and learn at Rowan. All our tutors at Rowan are artists who bring a wealth of experience and creativity to Rowan enabling learning-disabled people to create a wide and diverse range of art works in our 5 studios.
Sheila spent time in the ceramics studio with Deputy Manager Abi Moore and ceramics tutor Sarah Nibbs, photographing and talking to students, volunteers and staff exploring our artist-led approach exploring the process of one particularly project – making a clay bird from a mould and clay coiling techniques to make penguins, tweety pie and a dalek too!
Sheila’s blogs give an insight to our daily work at Rowan, and how we enable learning-disabled people to create extraordinary works of art, developing a wide-range of skills creating opportunities and choice.
