Course overview
Our 8-week woodwork course offers an introduction to constructive and direct carving techniques, enabling you to bring your artistic visions to life in a wall-mounted wooden panel. The sessions will include design, the creation of maquettes, the use of hand tools for carving, and application of polychromy. You’ll gain practical woodworking experience with personalized guidance and instruction from experienced tutors.
This course is hand tools-only; we will not be using any power tools or machine equipment.
About the tutors
Sarah Healey-Dilkes and Alistair Burgass are both seasoned woodwork tutors at Rowan. Alistair has a background in boatbuilding and fine art, and creates products for the Kettle’s Yard shop. Sarah has a background in restauration, working freelance for a number of national institutions.
Who can attend
No experience necessary. All participants must be over 18 years old.
Materials provided
All materials are included in the price, but you are welcome to bring your own tools or images for inspiration. If you already have a piece/panel of wood you’d like to carve, you can bring that with you as well.
