Oil Painting for Beginners and Improvers

This 7 week course is for complete beginners and for those who have had previous experience of underpainting with oils. The classes focus on learning to mix tonal colours, building layers from underpainting, brush and tools techniques, mark-making and composition analysis.

Jo encourages participants to practice on still-life setups, work from photographs or even create a painting from their imagination. This course offers something for everyone.

Who can attend: The course is open to complete beginners or those looking to refresh their skills. You must be over 18 years old.

What to wear: Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes, which you don’t mind getting paint on.

Materials provided: A basic range of materials will be provided for all participants to share. . Each week Jo brings in her own personal paints and tools for everyone to use. During the course there will also be an optional opportunity to purchase, at a great price, additional painting supports.  

Starters Kit  : If you would like to have your own oil painting kit to use at home, then we do offer an extra starter kit at £25. The kit contains:   

A set of 12 Seawhite paint tubes of 12ml  

A set of 4 brushes  

A palette   

A palette knife  

Small bottle of linseed oil   

Small bottle of solvent   

2 small canvases 

You can of course also bring your own oil painting materials to experiment with or get advice on.
