Rowan Humberstone
This 8-week course will guide you through different techniques to make both sculptural and functional pottery. You will learn about the ceramic process from mud to mug; each week focussing on traditional techniques such as coiling, slab building and using basic moulds to create ceramic forms. You will also have the opportunity to use the potter’s wheel with one-to-one instructions.
At the end, you’ll have the time and individual support to work on an independent project and decorate your designs using both coloured slips and glazes.
All finished works will be fired in the kiln at Rowan after your last session, and will be available to take home after about 4 weeks.
Materials provided
All materials and tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring in any materials for your own projects.
What to wear
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting a little mucky.
Who can attend
This course is open to complete beginners as well as people wanting to improve their pottery skills. You will be supported in a warm and relaxed learning environment with opportunity to pursue your own projects. Participants must be over 18 years old.
