Success for ‘Cambridge Seen’

Cambridge artists and Rowan student artists have helped us raise £5,500 – with potentially more to come!

The ‘Cambridge Seen’ exhibition, held at Long Road Sixth Form College last weekend, proved a major success with 170 works of art up for sale. 

Rosalind Morgan, chair of Rowan Trustees, said: ‘We have been overwhelmed by the support we received from the artistic community for this, our first, exhibition. From a blank canvas to a significant fundraising total is an amazing achievement. We are so touched that so many people rallied to our cause.”

Funds came from two sources – artists paid £10 for a blank canvas, then completed artworks were sold for £45 each, whether the work was by an inspired amateur or accomplished professional.

If you missed out on the exhibition, don’t worry as a few canvases are still available and will be posted on Rowan’s website shortly, all priced at the same £45.00 each. 

Hetti Wood, Rowan’s Communications Ambassador, said: “The level of inventiveness was astonishing. We received art in a variety or media, not just paintings. Some artists ripped the canvas out and used what was left to frame their individual work! So clever! We received work in many different mediums including textiles, ceramics, wood, paint and even glass. 

“It was such a success, we have already been asked when the next exhibition will be! Thanks to everyone who came long to make the weekend such a success from creating a canvas, buying some artwork to our wonderful volunteers.”
