River Project Exhibition on display at Parkside Pool

As part of Learning Disability Week Rowan student artists visited Parkside Pool today to see a small selection of artwork now on display from their River Project. Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the student artists at Rowan spent time, during 2016 and 2017, researching contemporary and historical aspects of the heritage of the River Cam. They were given training in interviewing people who work and live by the river, resulting in a film produced by ‘Capturing Cambridge’, as well as enjoying visits to a variety of organisations that thrive along the riverside. During the project, the tutors at Rowan engaged our student artists in drawing, painting, and printmaking, as well as in making ceramic vases and plates, a beautiful textile wall-hanging, and even a kinetic sculpture.

Along with seeing the artwork we were treated to tea and cake from their superb cafe, who have also been fundraising collections for us on the counter. Rowan student artist Janette said: “It was fantastic to see my artwork on display and now the public can see it as well. I could not wait to see it!”
