‘Walk for Rowan’ is a runaway success

Cambridge-based arts charity Rowan has raised £3,700, thanks to all the supporters who turned out to complete a sponsored walk last month.

Friends, family, staff and other supporters gathered at Jesus Green Lido, before walking 1k or 5k laps of Jesus Green and Midsummer Common to raise money for the charity that supports learning disabled adults.

The event takes place every year, with students completing laps along the Midsummer Common tow path to raise money for the arts centre. But this year was the first time the public were invited to take part.

“We’re thrilled at the turnout for this year’s Walk for Rowan,” said Rowan’s Chief Executive Officer Rachael Scott. “Over 80 people joined us and we raised more money than ever before. At Rowan, we believe that people living with a disability should have the same choice, quality of life, opportunities and aspirations as others and events like this make that goal possible.”

One group joining the walk was Saffron Walden Round Table, with members bringing along their families.

“We were more than happy to support the great work Rowan do in our local communities by joining them at the Walk for Rowan and raising £500 in sponsorship,” said Community Officer Phil Kyte. “It was great to see so many friends and families coming together in aid of a such a good cause – we can’t wait for next year’s walk!”
