Woodwork
In woodwork, student artists learn a wide range of skills and different woodwork approaches in our well-equipped studio and workshop. Student artists are encouraged to fulfil their own creativity through the design and creation of individual wood projects within a sharing and supportive environment. There is also the opportunity to work collaboratively on larger public and private commissions, for which Rowan has become well known. For past commission work please download our portfolio.
Alongside developing artistically, woodwork can help student artists develop holistically, by improving motor skills, helping with focus and concentration, and building confidence, resilience, and perseverance.
Woodwork at Rowan is led by tutor Alistair Burgass. Before joining Rowan in 2016, Alistair worked as a boat builder, and as a sculpture workshop technician at Cambridge School of Art. Outside of Rowan, Alistair maintains his own practice as a sculptor. He works in a variety of materials, predominantly wood.
